Who We Are: Voice of Nigeria (VON) Cooperative Lagos

Our Story

Voice of Nigeria (VON) is Nigeria’s official international broadcasting station, founded in 1961 and commissioned by Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa . For over six decades, VON has been the authentic voice projecting Nigeria’s perspectives to the world, broadcasting in eight languages—English, French, Arabic, Kiswahili, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, and Fulfude—from studios in Lagos and Abuja .

The VON Cooperative Lagos was born from a simple but powerful idea: that the dedicated professionals who give voice to Nigeria deserve a platform to secure their own financial future. Formed by staff members of VON, our cooperative society embodies the spirit of self-help and mutual cooperation that has made cooperatives a cornerstone of grassroots economic empowerment across Nigeria.
